The StanD:

stories about politicaL activism

About the project

THE STAND is a collection of stories about political and social activism, the people who got involved and how their contribution made an impact on the world AND their families.

The first episode of THE STAND, “Goodnight Irene”, is the result of a conversation with my mother, Irene Checler, where she recounts her upbringing as the daughter of political activists during the McCarthy era.

I grew up hearing many of her stories and in today’s social and political climate, I knew it was time to shed light on the ordinary people who took risks in the face of social injustice.

With this project, I wish to honor all those before me who had the courage to take a stand.

I am a French-American editor/producer with over 15 years of experience in long and short-form documentaries, television and web series which have covered a wide range of topics from Resistance fighters during World War II and the Black Panthers to slave labor in Brazil and the music of Charlie Chaplin.

My work has been featured on Independent Lens/PBS, NBC, France 2, TV Globo, the New York Times website, the Human Rights Watch Film Festival, DocNYC, and various other international festivals.

“Goodnight Irene” is my first podcast.

More stories are in development for this series and won’t be limited to audio. A good story is a good story and I am open to all formats, whatever best suits the narrative!
